…with 3 of my poems: Estate Sale – Eagle Pond Farm; Splinters; Vin Santo. And, as always with Nine Mile Magazine, lots of great work. You can get it from Amazon or directly from http://www.ninemile.org

The way the world is not
Astonished at you
It doesn’t blink a leaf
When we step from the house
Leads me to think
That beauty is natural, unremarkable
And not to be spoken of
Except in the course of things
The course of singing and worksharing
The course of squeezes and neighbors
The course of you tying back your raving hair to go out
And the course of course of me
Astonished at you
The way the world is not
Someone
on this train
is close to death
I look
out the window
like I’m midway
between Rome
and Bethany
still someone
may be dead
we all know
the smell
I pray it’s
not me again
(written on a BART train between SF and Berkeley, Lent 2004)

Keep your eyes clean and your ears quiet and your mind serene. Breathe God’s air. Work, if you can, under God’s sky. – Thomas Merton
