When all our idols are taken away…

When all of our idols are taken away, all our securities and defense mechanisms, we find out who we really are. We’re so little, so poor, so empty-and a shock to ourselves. But the biblical God takes away our shame and we are eventually able to present ourselves in an honest and humble form. Then we find out who we really are and who God is for us – and it is more than enough.

Moving Forward – Rilke (translated by Robert Bly)

The deep parts of my life pour onward,
as if the river shores were opening out.
It seems that things are more like me now,
that I can see farther into paintings.
I feel closer to what language can’t reach.
With my senses, as with birds, I climb
into the windy heaven, out of the oak,
and in the ponds broken off from the sky
my feeling sinks, as if standing on fishes.

once the storm is over

Haruki Murakami – “And once the storm is over, you won’t remember how you made it through, how you managed to survive. You won’t even be sure, whether the storm is really over. But one thing is certain. When you come out of the storm, you won’t be the same person who walked in. That’s what this storm’s all about.”
